Multicolored Embroidery Thread
Multicolored thread for machine embroidery is dyed in sections so that several colors repeat as the thread comes off the spool. There are various applications for this type of embroidery thread and it is widely used for freemotion sewing machine embroidery as a way of creating depth and dimension. With digitized embroidery designs (in embroidery software Wilcom, Tajima Pulse, Brother PE-Design, Wings, Embird...) however, these threads can sometimes create a striped effect, this may work for some embroidery designs, such as the tiger shown here, but may not be desirable in other cases. As always, it is best to stitch a sample of the design to see if the thread you have selected roduces the look you want.
Other multicolored embroidery threads available utilize new dyeing methods and twisting techniques. Twisted threads give the look of two colors blended together. Space dyed threads produce the look of several colors randomly repeating throughout the machine embroidery design.
Feel free experiment with a wide range of multicolored threads, as many free embroidery designs are well suited for all of them. New and unusual looks are waiting to be stitched.
